We add organic pressed coconut oil, salmon oil and flaxseed to our foods.

Why? Because they can help reduce the risk of developing heart disease and blood cholesterol levels. They also assist in blood sugar control, and the mitigation of inflammation.

Healthy fats exhibit a positive impact on blood pressure and have demonstrated support for gut health. Additionally, there is a growing body of evidence indicating that adequate intake of beneficial fats plays a role in maintaining the health of the intestinal barrier. This barrier, crucial for various metabolic functions such as preserving the gut microbiome, nutrient absorption, and immune function, is vital for overall well-being.

Animal fats can be beneficial in a pet's diet for several reasons:

  1. Energy Source: Fats are a concentrated source of energy, providing more than twice the energy content compared to proteins and carbohydrates.

  2. Nutrient Absorption: Certain vitamins, such as vitamins A, D, E, and K, are fat-soluble, meaning they require fat for absorption. Including animal fats in a pet's diet helps ensure the absorption of these essential nutrients.

  3. Palatability: Fats contribute to the flavour and palatability of pet food. Including animal fats can make the food more appealing to pets, encouraging them to eat and maintain a healthy weight.

  4. Skin and Coat Health: Fats play a crucial role in maintaining healthy skin and promoting a shiny coat. They help in preventing dryness, flakiness, and promoting overall skin health.

  5. Essential Fatty Acids: Some fats, particularly omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, are considered essential because the body cannot produce them on its own. These fatty acids are important for various physiological functions, including immune system function and inflammation regulation.

  6. Caloric Density: For pets with small appetites or those that require a higher calorie intake in a smaller volume of food, fats provide a concentrated source of calories, helping meet their energy requirements.

A balanced diet such as Poppy's Picnic is key. All of our foods provide a proper mix of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals to meet the specific nutritional needs of your pet. And if you cook our MIGHTY MINCE, celebrate the good fat you see in the pan!
